Sontag 16th @ Monadnock

Winchester, NH – Saturday July 7th, the Valenti Modified Racing Series was back in action for their 6th race of the season. It was the second of three stops at Monadnock Speedway this season. Last time at “Mad Dog” Cameron was able to score his first career Top 5 in the MRS with a 5th place finish. Looking to continue the momentum at his home track, expectations were high for another good finish.

The team was quick out of the box in first practice. Sontag would sit 9th fastest on the charts. Electing to stay on older tires for the second practice, they were able to jump up to the 4th fastest position with a couple of cars choosing not to practice.

It was heat racing time. The #13 James Monroe Wire & Cable Corporation / Earth Solutions Excavating sponsored Spafco modified would be in the second heat starting on the outside in 4th. Cam tried to maneuver his way to the bottom and pick up a position or two, but it wasn’t to be. Settling into 4th and riding out the heat to save the car for the feature was the best option.  This would put Sontag Motorsports 11th in the feature lineup.

Firecracker 100 feature event. The race would start off with a quick pace. Starting 11th gave the #13 the advantage of being on the preferred inside line. Fighting a tight car in and loose off Sontag would have to hold on for the first 40 laps of the race until a caution would come out and was able to pit. While relaying the information an adjustment was made to correct the problem but would cause another. Sontag would fight the car the entire race. Finally when the final caution would fly on lap 79, another adjustment was made and the car finally started to settle in but it would prove to be too late. Battling with fellow Rookie Of The Year competitor Derek Robbie in the #27, Sontag would run out of time. Crossing the line for the 100th time in 16th position. It was a disappointing end to a hopeful day at Monadnock Speedway, but the car was in once piece and Sontag Motorsports in Bill Belichick fashion is “on to” Lee USA Speedway!

Our next race is Friday, July 13th @ Lee USA Speedway. We hope to see you there and thank you for your support!
