Lee, NH – On Friday the 13th of July the Modified Racing Series made their way to Lee USA Speedway for Twin 50 Lap feature events. To make things interesting they would turn to the Mason-Dixon line for some inspiration and introduce the “Cone Race” to the MRS. For those not familiar with a cone race, when the yellow comes out before going back to green. A cone is set on the start/finish line and drivers have the option to choose high or low and play some strategy all while making some more excitement for the fans.
Cameron would start his heat race in 4th and was able to get to the low side and run out the heat race finishing 3rd. This would put him 6th on the starting grid for the first feature event. Running around 6th during the first feature the car would start to tighten up and handling would become an issue. Electing the low line on the final caution would restart the #13 Spafco Modified 9th. Not able to make up ground the outside line would move up and Cam would bring home an 11th place finish.
The 2nd feature would involve a complete field invert. With a couple of cars electing to start at the rear Cam would start the 2nd feature in 7th place. Cam would work his way to 4th on the first lap. After a quick caution on lap 1, selecting the low line again, Cam would single file out on the back stretch. In the middle of turns 3 and 4 the #13 would receive an unnecessary tap from behind that would get him out of the groove and sent him into the front stretch wall exiting turn 4. This cause a chain reaction wreck and would put a damper on what was to be a good run. With much of the rear missing and hard work from the crew, Cameron would hold on to a disappointing 18th place finish. Still 7th in points, Cameron leads all Rookies on the Valenti Modified Racing Series and is currently only 14 points out of 5th.
Our next race is Saturday August 4th at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway! We hope to see you there!
